Youth Charitable Music Competition
The Hong Kong Youth Charitable Music Competition 2023, orchestrated by Andrew Wu at the age of 16, serves as a distinctive gathering point for a diverse cadre of musicians. This event is structured not as a competition, but as a collective performance opportunity, promoting collaboration and unity among participants from various musical traditions.
All revenues generated from the event will be directed towards supporting the Boundless Music Fun Fair 2023, taking place in October. This fair will offer a variety of workshops that allow participants to explore and appreciate music from different cultural perspectives. The workshops will cover a range of musical styles, including classical, Chinese traditional, and various folk musics from around the world.
On the day of the fair, attendees will be treated to performances from an eclectic lineup, including folk musicians, choirs, and acapella groups. The fair aims to provide a platform where individuals of all backgrounds can engage with and enjoy music.
This initiative is founded on the conviction that music is a universal language, capable of transcending cultural and linguistic boundaries, and fostering a deeper understanding among people.
Highlights of the Event
Piano Devision
In this unique competition, the focus is on personal achievement rather than rivalry. Awards are distributed based on individual scores: Gold for scores above 90, Silver for above 80, Bronze for above 70, This format emphasizes self-improvement and personal excellence, aiming to inspire competitors to exceed their own limits without the pressure of direct competition. There are no traditional rankings such as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd places, fostering an environment where the true challenge is against oneself, encouraging growth and self-discovery.
Judge
Each participant received individualized feedback from the esteemed judge, Ms. Stella Tsang. After every performance, Ms. Tsang demonstrated improved techniques on stage, effectively turning the event into an interactive master class. This one-to-one instruction provided competitors with a unique educational experience, directly enhancing their skills and understanding of the musical art form. Ms. Tsang's hands-on approach significantly contributed to the developmental and artistic growth of each participant.
Violin Devision
Coordination between the soloist and the accompanist is essential. Their rapport, visible through eye contact and gestures, significantly enhances the performance by demonstrating a comprehensive understanding and effective interpretation of the music. This interaction is crucial as it not only conveys the emotional content but also showcases the interpretative abilities of the musicians. Competitors are expected to synchronize effectively to accurately express the musicality and rhythm of their pieces.
